چکیده

Introduction Last year the Dual-Echo PRESTO [l] technique was introduced to measure I0 and T2* simultaneously. This technique is an extension of the PRESTO [2] technique (TE > TR) and allows for the acquisition of two echoes within each TR. The first echo with a short TE (-7 ms) is acquired directly after RF excitation and is immediately followed by an echo with a long TE (-43 ms) which is echo-shifted. Using the echo shifting technique (TE>TR) for the second echo eliminates the ‘dead-time’ between the two echoes. In this study we extended the technique for multi-echo acquisition. The use of multiple echoes allows a better estimation of T2* and Ia than the dualecho method. A motor cortex activation experiment was performed to explore the applicability of Multi-Echo PRESTO.

A Multi-Resolution Comparison of Single-Shot EPI, 3DFFE and PRESTO for fMRI at 7T

INTRODUCTION Single-shot Echo-Planar Imaging (EPI) is the sequence most commonly used for fMRI experiments. At high field, e.g. 7T, magnetic field inhomogeneities cause spins to become out of phase quickly, and distortion and signal dropout become severe [1]. Consequently, single-shot EPI fMRI suffers technical limitations at high field. Here we consider two alternatives to EPI for high field f...

Fast and tissue-optimized mapping of magnetic susceptibility and T2* with multi-echo and multi-shot spirals

Gradient-echo MRI of resonance-frequency shift and T2* values exhibit unique tissue contrast and offer relevant physiological information. However, acquiring 3D-phase images and T2* maps with the standard spoiled gradient echo (SPGR) sequence is lengthy for routine imaging at high-spatial resolution and whole-brain coverage. In addition, with the standard SPGR sequence, optimal signal-to-noise ...

T2* Mapping from Multi-Echo Dixon Sequence on Gadoxetic Acid-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the Hepatic Fat Quantification: Can It Be Used for Hepatic Function Assessment?

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the diagnostic value of T2* mapping using 3D multi-echo Dixon gradient echo acquisition on gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a tool to evaluate hepatic function. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study was approved by the IRB and the requirement of informed consent was waived. 242 patients who underwent liver MRIs, including 3D mult...

Simultaneous three-dimensional myocardial T1 and T2 mapping in one breath hold with 3D-QALAS

BACKGROUND Quantification of the longitudinal- and transverse relaxation time in the myocardium has shown to provide important information in cardiac diagnostics. Methods for cardiac relaxation time mapping generally demand a long breath hold to measure either T1 or T2 in a single 2D slice. In this paper we present and evaluate a novel method for 3D interleaved T1 and T2 mapping of the whole le...

Merging UTE Imaging , Water - Fat Separation , and T 2 * Mapping in a Single 3 D MSK Scan

Introduction The separation of water and fat signal contributions, e.g. be achieved by chemical shift encoding [1], is essential for a number of MSK applications to improve image contrast for clinical diagnosis. Also, ultrashort echo time (UTE) imaging [2,3] was proposed for MSK MRI, yielding extra information about short T2 species. It is the idea to incorporate both approaches into a multi-ec...
